For this project, the client chose bamboo for the island counter top. Bamboo is a rapidly renewable wood resource and is considered a sustainable product. Bamboo can be manufactured with non toxic, food-grade, formaldehyde-free adhesives in butcher block designs. It is very important that if you do choose this option, you consider the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) guidelines for sustainability of the bamboo and that if you are buying raw materials, you use a varnish or sealant that has the lowest VOC emissions possible.
They are great communicators who come at things from the same place I do - I really felt like we spoke the same language. Bottom line: they’re great to work with and I wouldn’t think of doing another remodel or building project without them.
